Before registeration

So, you're new to HCS and want to know if it's worth of your time? Well... Me dunno. HCS is a RPG where you take part of a citizen of the world of Haven City that bases more or less to the work of Eoin Colfer. If you like Artemis Fowl-book series and/or RPGs, this game might be worth of trying.

Registeration

The registeration-form is quite self-explanatory. But the races has some differences:
Elves are kinda an Average Joe-class, but they get +5 alignment-points.
Dwarves have less magic than others, but they know how to steal items from others and they can burrow holes and use them to attacking...
Centaurs have no magic, but they can move for free (moving from block to block doesn't eat APs).
Sprites have normal amount of magic, and they can fly from block to block without going outside.
Pixies are the "evil elves"... -5 alignment-points.
Trolls have no magic, but it's difficult to take a troll down because they get more HPs, and when a troll decides to punch you, you'd better run...
Goblins know how to throw fireballs, but that's quite much it about their special-abilities...
Demons have more magic than others.

Interface

The interface of HCS consists 5 blocks: Map, navigation bar, location-info, sidebar and "the other stuff". The map shows 3x3 area around you. If the location-names are linked, you can move to them, if not, there's something preventing you from moving. Navigation bar contains links (some as dropdown, like the stuff under home) to different parts of the game. Location-info shows what you see around you at the moment and what you can do. Sidebar contains random more or less current stuff about current area. E.g in forum you see the latest 5 posts. The other stuff has the page's content itself.

The point

Description says: 2047. The underground fairy civilisation, Haven City, has descended into savagery. As result of the Goblin's recent successful revolution, the city is in chaos. It's every fairy for themselves. Take your side, co-operate and strike back!
In English, you're supposed to co-operate with the people who are on your side and take over the city, block by block.

How to send a PM

1. Get a communicator. They can be found from normal buildings (not hospitals or police departments).
2. Find the people's profiles you want to PM to.
3. Click "add friend"-link. If you can't see it, your future-friend doesn't have a communicator. Try to make them get one somehow.
4. Wait that your future-friend accepts your friend-request.
5. Go to Home -> Inbox and click your now-friend's name on the right.
6. Write PM.
7. Send.
8. ???
9. Profit

FAQ

General

Q: What action points are? Where can I get more of them?
A: You need action points to do various stuff, like moving from one place to another (except centaurs) and attacking other people. You get new AP every 15 minutes, and you can have max. 50 APs.
Q: What about magic?
A: People with magic has next abilities:
* Auto-healing. 1HP/1MP/5 min., self-revival isn't possible (at least yet).
* Shield. 2MP/5min.
* (goblins only): Fireball. 5MP/attack.
Because surface-access isn't possible, Haven City has organized an acorn-distribution-system that gives every hospital one acorn every day if there's someone who needs magic.
Q: I can ask some people as my friend but not some other, why?
A: The other ones you can't ask don't own a communicator.
Q: Can I give items to other people?
A: No, but dwarves can steal items from others.
Q: I'm shielded but I still get attacked!
A: Your attacker knows how to play with HTTP and that you're there. Try moving.
Q: What's the point of levels?
A: Each new level gives you 1% better chance of hitting when attacking someone, and..it may have some other effects, too.
Q: ...and gold?
A: Currently only place where gold matters is Black market. You can sell and buy your items there.
Q: Where can I find black markets?
A: Explore. There's some black markets here and there, according to rumour mill there's about 10.
Q: "My side" and "the other side"...?
A: Depending on your actions, you can become good or evil. Kill green (good) or link-coloured (neutral) people, you become evil. Kill red people (evil), you become good.
Q: What does it matter who "owns" the block?
Example: If you're a good person, you can't access blocks which are under the influence of evil forces, unless your alignment-points are high enough. Also, if you die, primarily you'll respawn in the hospital that is nearest and on your side. The AP-cost of respawning increases as the distance between you and the nearest friendly hospital increases, so it's quite useful to have as many hospitals under your side's influence as possible...

Strongholds

Q: What's stronghold?
A: A building that is owned by a guild. Currently only "special" thing about the stronghold is "guild inventory", where guild's members can put their items.
Q: How my guild can get a stronghold?
A: There's few requirements/restrictions about strongholds:
1) It costs 100 gold to the guild-owner. Only guild-owner can build (...buy) a stronghold.
2) The owner must be on the same side as the block's current side. Neutral guild-owners can't build/buy a stronghold
3) The block MUST be a "normal" building. Not a hospital/police department/street.
4) If you have alts in your guild, you're not allowed to have stronghold. And if you already have a stronghold, alts can't join your guild.
Q: Strongholds seems to have HP-count. Why?
A: Because strongholds are attackable. Initial HP-count comes from the block's original "alignment-points" ("alignment-points"*5=initial HP). Guild's members can "donate" their own reputation-points to the stronghold's HP-count.
Q: What happens to the guild inventory when the stronghold falls down?
A: It becomes inaccessible, and there's 25% chance that an item gets missing... But otherwise everything in it will stay intact and it'll be accessible again once the stronghold is re-built.

BBCode Guide by random_nub, last updated 4/1/2009

Introduction

BBCode is a way of formatting your text in HCS forums. You may also use it where other websites permit the use of it.

How to use the tags

To bold, italicise, underline or strikethrough strikethrough a certain part of the text you are posting, just encase the text within the respective tags.

Bold is [b] and [/b], Italics is [i] and [/i], Underline is [u] and [/u], Strikethrough is [s] and [/s].

Visual Help
Suppose you have this line of text that reads this:

Tom Morrison is the hunkiest weirdest guy of the century!

For an example (maybe even a practice problem), Bold the words "Tom Morrison", Strikethrough the word "hunkiest", Italicise the word "weirdest" and Underline the word "century".

Your text before you post it in a forum would look like this:

[b]Tom Morrison[/b] is the [s]hunkiest[/s] [i]weirdest[/i] guy of the [u]century[/u]!

and the result would come out looking like this:

Tom Morrison is the hunkiest weirdest guy of the century!

Nesting Tags:
To apply more than one effect to a group of text (e.g. Bold it AND Underline it), just surround the text with the respective tags. Normally it would be good sense to nest the tags properly, however in HCS Forum posting it does not matter which order you nest the tags. I strongly recommend that you nest the tags properly, as that will also help if you are using BBCode in the RPG game Ankhet.

An example of the above:
[b][u][i]This is R_N's test message.[/i][/u][/b]
is the proper way you would nest it.

However, messing up the order also works. Thus, the following method also codes properly:
[b][u][i]This is R_N's test message.[/u][/i][/b]
Don't do this

Both would encode to form this:

This is R_N's test message.

Quotes:

These tags are used to quote a line of text that someone may have said. Depending on whether you know the person who said the sentence in question or not, there are 2 forms of the tags, both very similar and not vastly different from each other.

If you don't know the person:

An example is as shown:

[quote]The war is won, but the peace is not.[/quote]
would encode to form
Quote:
The war is won, but the peace is not.

(for the record, this quote was Einstein's.)

If you know the person:

Another example as follows:

[quote=random_nub]You actually "[b]BOOKMARKED[/b]" her? Wow...[/quote]
would encode to form
Quoted random_nub :
You actually "BOOKMARKED" her? Wow...

Of course, you can replace my name with anyone whom you wish to quote.

And last but not least, one which I particularly like:

Hyperlinks

Finally, we arrive over at Hyperlinks. These require 2 main things:

1. You use the [url][/url] tags.
2. You make sure the website you are linking to has http:// in front of it. This has been Bolded and Underlined because it is VERY, VERY, IMPORTANT. The "www." too!

Examples:

1. Basic Mode

[url]http://ankhet.com[/url]
would format as
http://ankhet.com

2. A Name to your Hyperlink Mode

[url=http://gmail.com]Gmail Website Link[/url]
Would come out as
Gmail Website Link

Did you see the important difference between #1 and #2? In #2, the link has a [url=http://......]tag compared to the normal [url] tag. This feature allows you to basically give the link a name, and possibly make it not so obvious as to what the link possibly is.

I want to help

You want to help? Great! Though... There's nothing much you can do, mainly code... And probably documentating. But if you have some really good suggestions (even better if you have something already done!), tell me (Nindra). Though I don't check my e-mail so often, so I suppose the best way to contact me would be in-game.
